Weekend Update

  • So that illness I felt coming on...pneumonia. The last week has been awful...just plain awful. But I'm getting better.
  • We went to Indiana over the weekend for the baptism of Chris's nephew. Chris was the proud Godfather. I was quite moved by the Monsignor and the little sermon he gave during the baptism. I know that non-denominational Christians don't agree with infant baptism, but I had an epiphany about it all this weekend. It is more a welcoming the baby into the faith and committing to raise him in it. I believe that being a Christian is a personal commitment and that everyone must choose for themself. So the baptism...its more for the parents and the family.
  • Sleep...oh sleep...every week I consider writing a blog post about my love affair with sleeping. But I fear that might be a boring post. Bottom line--I am deeply in love with my comforter, mattress and pillow. This past weekend I got very little sleep and this made me angry. I get downright hostile if Chris wakes me up with his snoring. I get downright hostile if Cole wakes me up for no reason in the middle of the night.
  • Anyone started their Christmas shopping? I have officially bought my 1st gift for Cole...there was a Leapster game on sale at Wal-Mart for $15, that is super cheap for Leapster game. I overheard Cole telling his Grandma this weekend he wanted a Nintendo DS. Her response was "What's a DS". She must have asked Cole what he wanted for Christmas. When Chris heard her say that he flipped his lid, he yelled "WHAT?? NO COLE". Then we explained to her what it was and made it very clear that it was not an acceptable gift for a 6yr old. Maybe in a few years. I think the main reason why he wants one is because there is this buddy on his school bus that has one. This kid is in 3rd grade, maybe when Cole is in 3rd grade he can get one.
  • Still getting spammed on my blog, what is up with that?
  • I'm going this Saturday to get a facial, I have never had a real spa facial before. Should be interesting. I'm using the gift card Chris got me for my birthday.

Weekend Update

  • Discovered through a serious case of hives that Cooper is allergic to penicillin, good times here. Benadryl and oatmeal bath's seem to be doing to trick. Poor kid.
  • I keep getting spammed on my blog, what is up with that. Thank goodness I have comments moderation on.
  • I don't mean to complain about the weather. It has been so nice and balmy, not typical Illinois weather for sure. However this weather means that the stupid lady bugs aren't dying off. Now don't get me wrong, I typically find lady bugs adorable. But when you have 20 of them on your living room ceiling and 20 more collecting around every light.
  • I discovered this weekend that I can download Weeds on Direct TV via Video on Demand. LOVE IT!
  • I'm getting sick...this irritates me. I can feel it coming on...this irritates me.

Halloween Pictures

We all had a very fun halloween. Cooper was Spiderman and Cole was Commander Cody (from Star Wars). First we stopped by and visited the Smolen girls. Then we visted with the Kimbrel boys. It was a fun night for everyone. Catching up with friends and eating candy...doesn't get much better than that!

Not a weekend update, just an update

  • Poor Cole is quite sick right now. He got sick at school yesterday (thankfully they have a bathroom in his classroom) and was picked up early. I checked his temp at 9PM and it was 101. I checked it again at 3AM and it was 104. Once I saw that, I could no longer sleep. I gave him Ibuprofen, some ice water, and a cool wash rag for his face. Then I fell into a worried fretful sleep. I was woken up an hour later due to Coop needing to go potty. So I get him squared away and check on Cole again. He was still burning up. I got him a fresh cool rag and then went back to sleep. Chris was sleeping on the futon downstairs (he has a sinus infection and was sparing me his snoring), I guess at some point Cole climbed into bed with Chris. Cole is still asleep right now (its 8AM) which is very rare for him. I'm trying to keep Cooper quiet (which isn't easy).
  • Halloween was so much fun, mostly because we hung out with our friends. We first hit Jane's house. It was nice to just sit and talk with her. She has a beautiful brand new baby, which I held the entire time I was there. The kids and dads trick-or-treated around the neighborhood. When they were done we hit the road and headed over to Paul and Tonya's. There we just hung out with the kids and talked. It was fun to catch up with them.
  • I am going to roast chicken today, I swear this has become my favorite thing to eat. It all started with a Jamie Oliver recipe I found over the summer. It was this beautiful recipe of chicken, tomato's and herbs. Seriously check out the link, you will drool over the picture. Anyhow I made it and it was heaven on a plate. So then I started to mix it up with whatever veggies I had around. I threw some potato's in last time--delish. The thing is, it takes almost 2hrs to make. So it requires some planning on my part. But since I'm home with a sick kid...I've got time. Plus it is something he can eat, some roasted chicken is good for the body and soul.
  • Take care, have a good week, hope all is well at your home.

The countdown begins

Thanksgiving...just 3 weeks away. The year has just flown by.
The kids has a ball Trick or Treating tonight, I'll post pictures in a few days.
Its getting chilly at night, I'm sleeping with socks on (well...at least the 1st hour I'm in bed)
Updated the blog to a Thanksgiving theme. Every magazine has Thanksgiving food ideas. I'm thinking about roasting brussel sprouts. I saw a recipe with bacon in it, YUM. I asked Cole if he would eat roasted turkey, he swears he will.
Happy November everyone!

Weekend Update

  • Everyone seems to be getting sick here, Coop has had a cold hanging on for awhile. Bad cough and runny nose, but acting like his usual happy self. I personally feel really run down and tired lately. Everyone has a theory as to why I feel this way. Chris thinks I am getting sick, my dad said pneumonia (which I thought was weird since I don't have a cough), step-mom thinks I am just over-worked and too busy, and I have a serious case of hypochondria and think I have some terrible disease.
  • Have you seen those reversible vera bags, they are so cute. I saw a girl in the mall carrying one the other day and had a serious case of handbag envy.
  • Are you watching Cake Boss. This show makes me laugh out loud. I love the family dynamic, I love the amazing artistry, I love when his family yells BUDDY. This is one of those shows where Chris and I watch it together and just enjoy it.
  • Halloween is coming up and the kids are super excited. We are in the countdown until Saturday.

a rainy afternoon

Today we have decided to hibernate...well with one of Cole's friends over. Chris made cookies, the kids are watching Scooby Doo, and I am interneting and reading magazines.

The other day I did something I have not done since the 80's...I bought a pair of sweats. Now they aren't those elastic ankle kind...these are straight leg and black (of course). So comfy...but a real departure for me. I seriously have not owned sweats in 15yrs. I'm wearing them today.

A nap might be in order later.
I need to search the cupboards...soup is necessary today.
We have carved 2 pumpkins...the last one is waiting to be made into darth vader.

I love days like this.
